Ann and I continue our discovery of dimensional glass combining Bullseye Color Line Paints and frit in multiple layers. We have learned that repeated high fires of the paints does compromise the integrity of the color, so we are using 2 coats of separately fired paints with one large full fusing in order to reduce the number of high temp exposures.
The piece on the lower right is a final piece, with the lower left and upper pieces using the above method. Now for the final frit application to create the final dimension. If this last fire is successful, I feel reasonably confident that we have come up with the right formula in crafting our product. I just found out that I was awarded second place in the kiln-formed category in the online Delphi Glass 2015 Art Glass Festival for "Red Forest". I have been participating in the national competition on and off for the last 6 years and have finally made a showing. This same competition is where I found Donna Serafis in 2010. Anne Nye placed second last year in the same category, so I feel honored to be included in a group that I consider to be the best of the best!
Thank you Delphi Glass for the chance to show and compete! |
